Feller, Valley named preseason All-Big Sky

Montana's McCalle Feller and Kayleigh Valley both were named preseason All-Big Sky Conference Sunday as the start of the 2015-16 season approaches. The announcement came four days after the Lady Griz were picked atop the Big Sky preseason coaches' poll.
Feller and Valley were two of six players who earned preseason recognition.
North Dakota senior forward Mia Loyd, first-team All-Big Sky last season after averaging 15.0 points and 8.9 rebounds, was named the league's preseason MVP. UND, the 2014 Big Sky regular-season and tournament champion, was picked second in the preseason poll.
Joining Feller and Valley on the five-player preseason all-conference team were Eastern Washington senior guard Hayley Hodgins, Idaho State senior guard Apiphany Woods and Montana State senior forward Jasmine Hommes.
Hodgins, who averaged 16.3 points last season, joins Loyd as the league's only returning first-team All-Big Sky selections from a year ago. Hommes, at 16.9 points, is the Big Sky's top returning scorer. Woods was voted honorable mention All-Big Sky last season and named the league's Top Newcomer.
Feller and Valley, both honorable mention All-Big Sky last winter, are the only two returning starters for Montana, which won 24 games last season, claimed the Big Sky regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to its 21st NCAA tournament.
Valley averaged 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds last winter while shooting a team-best 47.0 percent. Feller, at 10.9 per game, was Montana's third player to average double figures last season, along with Valley and Kellie Rubel. Her 67 3-pointers were five off the UM single-season record.
The rest of the members of Montana's 14-player roster have started a combined three games, and six have not played in a collegiate game.
The Lady Griz will hold their annual Maroon and Silver scrimmage on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and face Carroll and Great Falls in exhibition games Nov. 4 and 9. The regular season opens with a home game against Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 15.
