
Montana finishes second at Bobcat Spring Invitational

The Montana women's golf team finished second out of 10 teams Tuesday at the Bobcat Spring Invitational. The two-day tournament was played at the Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.
Montana, with a 302, was in second place behind Grand Canyon after Monday morning's opening round, and the Grizzlies held that position with a 306 Monday afternoon and a 311 Tuesday morning.
Grand Canyon shot rounds of 298, 301 and 300 to win the tournament by 20 strokes over Montana. The Grizzlies finished eight strokes up on third-place British Columbia and topped the other five Big Sky Conference teams that were competing by an average of more than 40 strokes.
Sophomore Barbora Bakova (75-76-77--228) led Montana and finished fourth overall behind three golfers from Grand Canyon. GCU's Charlotte Jaengkit (73-70-75--218), at 2-over, earned medalist honors by a stroke over teammate Kennedie Montoya (72-72-75--219).
Senior Tara Green (73-81-76-230) and sophomore Alexa Schendelman (76-76-79--231) joined Bakova in the top 10. Green tied for seventh, Schendelman tied for ninth. It was Green's 10th career top-10 finish.
Sophomore Amanda Kahn (78-78-79--235) shot three rounds in the 70s for the first time since September to tie for 19th. Junior Hayley Bingham (79-76-83--238) finished 28th.
Montana's five players carded scores in the 70s in 13 of their 15 rounds at the tournament, the team's best sub-80 shooting since the Washington State Cougar Cup last fall.
Montana, which returns home Tuesday before traveling back to Arizona on Friday, will face Portland State in match play on Saturday at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler.
The Grizzlies will compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic next Monday and Tuesday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa.
