Â
The Montana women's golf team wrapped up round two of The Gold Rush with a 313 on Tuesday morning, then shot a 324 in round three to finish 14th out of 14 teams at the Old Ranch Country Club at Seal Beach, Calif.
Â
Kari Opatz (75-81-78--234) tied for 54th. Hailey Hoagland (78-75-83--236) tied for 62nd, Teigan Avery (80-80-79--239) tied for 68th, Baylee Barckley (80-77-87--244) finished 79th, and Abby Pfeifer (96-84-84--264) placed 87th in the 87-player field.
Â
Montana had just two of four scoring rounds in the 70s in each of the three rounds. No player scored all three rounds in the 70s.
Â
Opatz's 75 in round one and Hoagland's 75 in round two were the team's low rounds of the tournament.
Â
Opatz had the team's best round on Tuesday of 78. She was 1-over through 11 holes but played her final seven holes at 5-over.
Â
Avery was the only other player to break 80 on Tuesday, shooting a 7-over 79, her best round of the tournament.
Â
San Jose State, with a national ranking of 50, shot rounds of 289, 287 and 293 to win the tournament by 11 strokes over No. 31 BYU, which carded scores of 293, 292 and 295.
Â
Idaho, fifth through two rounds, rallied on Tuesday to finish third with a third-round 286, the best round by any team at the tournament.
Â
Much of that was due to the play of Sophie Hausmann, who used rounds of 70, 69 and 65 to earn medalist honors by three strokes over day-one leader My Leander of San Jose State, who went 69, 69, 69.
Â
Montana will compete again in two weeks at the Women's Spring Break Invitational at Dallas, Texas, a tournament co-hosted by Oral Roberts and Stephen F. Austin at the Trophy Club Country Club.
