Bengals knock off Grizzlies 6-1

The Idaho State women's tennis team defeated Montana 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Peak Racquet Club in Missoula.
It was the 10th straight loss for the Grizzlies (1-11, 0-3 BSC) and kept the Bengals (4-5, 3-0 BSC) unbeaten in league as they continue to challenge for an unexpected spot in next month's Big Sky Conference tournament.
Montana, which lost the doubles point, fell into a 3-0 hole after Hannah Sulz lost in straight sets at No. 1 singles and Catherine Orfanos fell at No. 3 after winning the opening set.

With the Grizzlies facing defeat, Nathalie Joanlanne fought off two match points at No. 4 to make it 3-1 and keep the Grizzlies alive with a gutsy three-set win.
Idaho State would close out the match with a three-set win at No. 2 and straight-set wins at No. 5 and 6.
Joanlanne's was the match of the day, from either a drama or Montana point of view. After dropping the first set 6-3, Joanlanne trailed Melissa Coburn 5-3 in the second, with Coburn serving.
Coburn had a pair of match points, but Joanlanne fought off one, and Coburn double-faulted on the other.
"I could tell she was getting a little tight and getting nervous," said Joanlanne. "I used that to my advantage. I made every ball until she missed.
"I started executing my finish balls, which was huge for me, because I was missing those in the first set."
Joanlanne won three straight games to go up 6-5 and had a chance to serve out the set, but Coburn rallied to force a tiebreaker. That was all Joanlanne, who won 7-1.
"I get really good confidence in my whole game when I make a clean forehand winner, because that's my favorite shot," she said. "I got some confidence and was able to win the second set."
Joanlanne pulled out the third 6-4 in a set that wasn't as close as the score indicates. Joanlanne was in control from the tiebreaker through the end of her match.
"I could tell she was getting tired, so I used that to my advantage," Joanlanne said. "She wasn't getting to the balls she was getting to in the first set. I tried to make her move a little bit more, with a drop shot here or there. Even if she made them, she was still running."
The win gives the Wisconsin transfer, who won last Saturday at Sacramento State, her first two-match winning streak of the year. She has won three of her last four singles matches and four of her last six.
She also has a team-high four doubles victories.
"It's nice because I haven't had a streak yet this spring. And to come back like I did today after a first-set loss is something I've gotten a lot better at," she said. "It felt good to get that point on the board for us."
Montana couldn't take advantage. Orfanos lost at No. 3 after winning the first set, then Lidia Dukic did the same thing at No. 2, which gave Idaho State its winning point.
The Bengals finished out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 and 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The margin between winning and losing continues to be small for Montana. The Grizzlies had opportunities to win the doubles point and lost a pair of singles matches after they had grabbed 1-0 leads.
"If we can step it up one more notch, and we know we can do that, we'll be fine," said Joanlanne.
Montana will host Southern Utah (1-10, 0-5 BSC) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Boise State at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Peak Racquet Club.
