Montana's Ahmaad Rorie picked up the final Big Sky Conference men's basketball Player of the Week honor after leading the Grizzlies to a No. 5 seed and a first-round bye at this week's conference tournament.
Rorie, a sophomore from Tacoma, Wash., averaged 25 points in Montana's two road wins at Weber State and Idaho State. The transfer from Oregon scored a game-high 23 points at Weber State on Thursday, going 10-22 from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc as the Griz picked up a crucial 78-74 win, the team's first regular season win in Ogden since 2004.Â
Â
Montana needed a win at ISU to clinch a first-round bye at the conference tournament. Thanks to 27 points from Rorie, the Grizzlies picked up a commanding 95-76 win.
As UM's leading scorer this season, Rorie is now averaging 17.7 points per game. He holds the Big Sky's top assist to turnover ratio at 2.06, ranking him No. 91 nationally.Â
Rorie has earned Montana's nomination for Big Sky Player of the Week a total of nine times this season but has yet to take home the weekly award. The Grizzlies have only had one other player earn the honor. Fabijan Krslovic was also named Player of the Week on December 13 after a near triple-double performance against San Jose State.Â
Rorie was also named to the All-Big Sky Conference Second Team earlier in the day by the league.Â
Â
No. 5 seed Montana will open Big Sky tournament play on Thursday against No. 4 seed Idaho. Tip-off is set for 2:35 p.m. PT.
Others Nominated: Nick Hornsby (SAC), Quinton Hooker (UND), Jeremy Senglin (WSU), Bogdan Bliznyuk (EWU), Jordyn Martin (NAU), Jordan Davis (UNC), Geno Luzcando (ISU), Victor Sanders (ISU)
