Baylee Barckley shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and finished tied for ninth as the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational wrapped up at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash.
Â
Barckley opened the tournament with scores of 74 and 75 on Monday. She had four birdies on Tuesday to offset four bogeys. Her 13 birdies for the three rounds were one off the tournament high.
Â
It was Barckley's second consecutive top-10 finish and the sixth of her career.
Â
"My iron shots were pretty consistent today. Off the tee I was kind of struggling, but I was able to get the ball back into position and close to the pin to save par," she said.
Â
Montana closed with a team score of 304, after shooting 312 and 313 on Monday.
Â
Faith D'Ortenzio (80-78-77), Teigan Avery (79-87-77) and Brooklyn Van Bebber (79-86-78) all had their best round of the tournament on Tuesday, as did Allison Sobol (84-79-74), who was playing as an individual.
Â
"It's a pretty good way to go out. After playing so well (at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate two weeks ago), we had some momentum going into this tournament," said Barckley.
Â
"I also think after playing 36 holes yesterday, we kind of had a plan of attack for today, and I think our scores showed it."
Â
Santa Clara (299-301-291), in third place going into Tuesday's final round, rallied to win the team title by four strokes over Houston Baptist (303-294-298) and six over Grand Canyon (304-293-300), the 36-hole leader.
Â
Houston Baptist's Kaity Cummings (73-70-71) and Washington's Karen Miyamoto (74-71-69) both finished 2-under, with Cummings defeating Miyamoto in a three-hole playoff for medalist honors.
Â
Montana finished tied for 14th with Gonzaga and ahead of Montana State, Weber State and Idaho State in the 18-team field.
Â
The tournament wrapped up Montana's fall schedule. The Grizzlies averaged a score of 311.7 for their 11 rounds over four tournaments, with three of the last five being played at 308 or better.
Â
"As a team, we've come a long way since the beginning of the season," said Barckley, who's played alongside three freshmen at all four tournaments: Van Bebber, Sobol and Kylie Esh (84-74-80).
Â
Montana won't play in another tournament until February, when the Grizzlies head to Southern California and the Battle at the Rock in Riverside.
Â
"It's kind of weird having such a big gap between competitions," added Barckley, who had a fall scoring average of 76.9, best on the team, with her final seven rounds played at 77 or better.
Â
"It helps I get to go back home to California (for the long Christmas break), so I'm able to practice on grass and keep the swing going and don't have to rely on muscle memory."
