Griz looking to come out polished in Friday scrimmage

After shaking off the spring break rust, the Montana Grizzlies will open the doors to Washington-Grizzly Stadium for the team's first public scrimmage of the season, set for Friday, April 6 at roughly 3 p.m.
Â
The open scrimmage will give fans a sneak peek of head coach Bobby Hauck's 2018 Griz ahead of the annual Spring Game on April 14.
Â
Now with 10 practices and one closed-door scrimmage under their belts, Hauck and his staff are pleased with how the team has adjusted to the new staff and taken the playbook on board.
Â
"I like the progress we've made. Attitudinally spring ball has been terrific. We need to continue to develop as a football team and get better as individuals and as offensive and defensive units, but the progress has been solid," said Hauck.
Â
Now, as the Griz prepare to take the field for the first time in a game-like scenario in front of fans, Hauck as his staff are looking to get three things from the team: reps, reps and more reps.
Â
"Just to get out and play football - have live tackling and live blocking - is good for us on both sides of the ball," said Hauck.
Â
"This football team needs as many plays as we can get them. Our health and depth will dictate how many we can go, but we played around 111 plays in the last scrimmage, and that was really productive for us."
Â
Friday's scrimmage is scheduled to start around 3 p.m. but won't run for a set amount of plays or time.
Â
Hauck says this week the Griz will be narrowing the focus, looking to polish the details as the staff continues to build a depth chart.
Â
"In the last scrimmage, we just moved the ball. In this scrimmage, we're going to work some specific situations. We don't really have a prescribed number of plays, it's just work in these situations, and we'll call it," Hauck says.
Â
GETTING THERE
The Adams Center and Washington-Grizzly Stadium will be busy places on Friday afternoon with a concert scheduled in Dahlberg Arena that evening.
Â
Fans attending the scrimmage are asked to access the stadium via the west and south gates. Rosters will be available for fans at the west gate.
Â
GSA SPRING GAME
Montana football will close out the spring season on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. with the annual Grizzly Scholarship Association Spring Game, presented for the second-straight year by Northwestern Mutual.
