The Montana softball team swept a doubleheader from Columbia Basin on Saturday at Grizzly Softball Field in Missoula, defeating the overmatched Hawks by scores of 30-0 and 36-0.

The Grizzlies scored six runs in the first inning in the opener and never let up. They would go on to score runs in eight of their nine innings of at-bats.

Montana scored a dozen runs in the top of the fifth in Game 1, then surpassed that with 16 runs in the third inning in Game 2.
Ā
Cami Sellers and Katie Pippel hit back-to-back home runs in the opener. Morgan Johnson and McKenna Tjaden both had home runs in Game 2.
Ā
The Hawks managed just three hits off three Montana pitchers.

Tristin Achenbach got the start in Game 1 and was overpowering. The first 12 outs she recorded came by strikeout. She was relieved by Michaela Hood for the top of the sixth, and Hood struck out the side.
Ā
Of the 18 outs recorded by Montana in the opener, 16 came by strikeout.
Ā
The Hawks had two of their three hits on the day leading off the top of the fourth in Game 2. A single through the right side and an infield single put two on with nobody out.
Ā
Ashley Ward, who set down the first nine batters she faced to start the game, gave way to Hood.
Ā
The righthander struck out the next batter looking, then induced a line-drive out to Maygen McGrath at shortstop. She flipped the ball to second for the inning-ending double play.

Colombia Basin would go down in order in the top of the fifth, at which point the game was put to an end.
Ā
Montana scored its 36 runs in Game 2 on just 16 hits. Columbia Basin's pitchers hit eight batters and walked 12 more in the second game, and the Hawks also committed seven errors.
