One more trip to Bozeman for final tune-up
2/14/2019 3:39:00 PM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Montana will travel to Bozeman on Friday for its final track & field meet of the regular season. Properly titled the Big Sky Tuner, the purpose of the meet is to prepare athletes for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place Feb. 21-24.
Â
The meet will feature student-athletes from Montana, Montana State and Carroll College, as well as a handful of competitors from Montana Western and Southern Utah.
Â
The goal of the meet is to get each athlete ready for the Big Sky Championships, but the route differs for each competitor. For some, Friday is a chance to ramp up their progression, or to even make a push for a final roster spot. For others, this weekend is more about preparing his or her body for next week. As was the case last week, some athletes will not compete this weekend, instead saving their energy for next week.
Â
Montana, which has been relatively healthy all winter, was hit with sickness and minor injuries last week, so ensuring bodies are at peak performance next week is a top priority.
Â
The Grizzlies' top athlete in 10 of the 16 events will not be competing, including 10 of the 12 running events. Entering this week, Montana has 69 athletes ranked in the top 20 of an event in the Big Sky Conference, including three event leaders and two runner-ups.
Â
Action begins Friday at 4 p.m., with track events starting at 5. Live results can be followed online.
