The Montana softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday as the Bulldog Classic continued in Fresno, Calif.
Â
The Grizzlies (5-19) gave up eight runs in the top of the first in a 10-1 loss to Cal Baptist, then managed just two hits off Fresno State in their second loss to the Bulldogs in two days, 6-0.
Â
Colleen Driscoll got the start in Montana's opener and couldn't overcome two early errors that allowed the Lancers to get rolling.
Â
Two of the game's first four batters reached by error, one by Montana's infield, one by the outfield, and by the time the inning was over, Cal Baptist turned seven hits and those two errors into an 8-0 lead.
Â
Michaela Hood pitched the final 4 1/3 innings. Only three of Cal Baptist's 10 runs were earned.
Â
Montana had six hits, three of them for extra bases. The Grizzlies' lone run came in the bottom of the fourth, when Maddy Stensby led off with a double to left-center. Maygen McGrath followed with an RBI double to left-center.
Â
Brooklyn Weisgram went 2 for 3, with her first collegiate triple in the bottom of the fifth. Jessica McAlister went 2 for 2, with a pair of singles.
Â
Fresno State's Danielle Lung struck out 13 and limited Montana to two hits on Friday night in Fresno State's 8-0 victory over the Grizzlies.
Â
One day later it was right-hander Hailey Dolcini who handcuffed Montana.
Â
She gave up a second-inning double to Cami Sellers and a single to McGrath in the seventh. In all, she allowed only four bases runners while striking out nine.
Â
Driscoll, who only threw 30 pitches against Cal Baptist before being relieved, got the start against Fresno State as well and gave her team a chance. It was a 3-0 game going into the sixth.
Â
Driscoll gave up an RBI infield single in the second, a two-run double in the third. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with three runs on four hits in the sixth.
Â
Montana will face North Dakota (10-13) on Sunday at 10 a.m. (MT). The Fighting Hawks are 1-3 at the Bulldog Classic, with two shutout losses to Cal Baptist, a loss to Fresno State and a 3-2 win over UC Santa Barbara.
