For the first time in 12 seasons, Montana opened Big Sky Conference play with a loss, falling at Southern Utah, 64-63, on Thursday night. The Grizzlies led for more than 31 minutes and never trailed by more than 3 points in the loss. The Grizzlies led by as many as 11 points on the night, including seven in the second half. They held a 56-52 lead with under 5 minutes to play and a 59-58 advantage with 2 minutes on the clock, but Southern Utah made six free throws over the closing 2 minutes to pull in front. Sophomore Josh Vazquez led the way for Montana with 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
