Former Grizzly to be inducted into MCA Hall of Fame

Former Grizzly running back and long-time Montana high school football coaching veteran Tony Arntson has been named one of nine coaches set to enter the Montana Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2020, the organization announced this week.

Arntson, who coached a host of former Grizzly football players at Helena High in his 24-year career and coached Bengal track and field for 20 years, is now the head track coach at the University of Providence in his hometown of Great Falls.

Arntson lettered for the Grizzlies from 1985-88. His son Ryan Anrtson has followed in his footsteps as a walk-on squad member at UM in 2019 and 20 after two seasons at Carroll College, where Tony was recently an assistant football coach. Like his dad, Ryan is also a running back and wears No. 14.

While at Helena High, Arntson's football teams played in four state championship games, and his track won two Class AA state titles. As a football coach, he finished his career with 12-straight winning seasons with the Bengals advancing to the playoffs in each year. In that time, he posted a 105-36 record, winning nearly 75-percent of his games.

Arntson began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Grizzlies after earning a B.A. in business and physical education from the University of Montana.

The MCA Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to take place in July.
