Â
Dear Griz fans,
Â
First, thank you for all you do to support our wonderful student-athletes and the University of Montana. As we enter June, I want to update you on a few different topics.
Â
The Washington-Grizzly Champions Center reopened to a limited number of student-athletes on June 1. I express my gratitude to our medical and strength and conditioning staff for developing a plan to operate the facility in a healthy way. It is wonderful to see student-athletes again. I am grateful for the facilities we have built over these past few years. The spacious Washington-Grizzly Champions Center allows us to operate in a much more efficient way and allows our student-athletes to get back to voluntary training sessions. Thank you to all who made the facility a reality!
Â
I am most often asked questions related to football in the fall, Washington-Grizzly Stadium capacity, and what game day may look like come September. I would like to take this opportunity to begin addressing these questions while also acknowledging things change rapidly, and will most likely look very different in September as compared to now.
Â
We fully anticipate playing football and other fall sports at the University of Montana. How will the schedule play out? Will stadium capacity be reduced? What will the game day experience look like? These are some questions we just do not know the answers to right now.
Â
However, I want to update you on where we stand today and the direction we are heading.
Â
2020 Football Season
We are planning to be playing football in Washington-Grizzly Stadium this fall. Announcing our intentions is the easy part; the hard work is designing the season – practices, scrimmages, game days – in the safest manner possible for our players, coaches, staff, fans and all who come to support the Griz. Our teams are hard at work on the complex planning around this effort, and we will continue to design, and redesign, our plans incorporating the current science around COVID-19 as well as the best practices for mitigating health and safety risks.
Â
Football Ticketing
We are grateful for the support of everyone who attends our events. It is critical to our ability to operate a department that benefits so many in the community and on campus. As it relates to ticketing, keep these things in mind:
Â
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The football season ticket deadline is July 3, 2020. Payment for tickets and any Grizzly Scholarship Association donation will be due that day.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Any season ticket holder who does not renew their football tickets because of concerns around COVID-19 will have first right to purchase those same tickets for the 2021 season. We feel it is important to work with our season ticket holders. All we ask is you notify the box office by the July 3 deadline if that is your intent.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â If stadium capacity is reduced, students and season ticket holders will be the first groups accommodated. There is the potential of no single-game tickets being sold.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â If stadium capacity is reduced to a number that will not allow all students and season ticket holders to attend, we will have to prioritize who gets into the stadium.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Please stay connected to GoGriz.com and our social media platforms for the latest updates, including a list of frequently asked questions.
Â
Football Game Day
The game day experience in and around Washington-Grizzly Stadium is second to none. The atmosphere is what makes the University of Montana and Grizzly football so special. I assure you we are working diligently to develop a plan to keep game day as safe as possible and accommodate as many fans as possible. Most likely, game day at Washington-Grizzly Stadium will look different. Topics and ideas being considered include:
Â
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Tailgating and the proper mix of public and private gatherings and how to best manage those gatherings.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Entrance into Washington-Grizzly Stadium. We are looking at how to bring fans into the stadium in a more structured way. Potentially entering as sections will help keep groups together.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Kickoff to the final whistle. Use of restrooms, concessions, suite access, and reducing the mixing of fans between sections.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Exit from Washington-Grizzly Stadium. We are looking at how to exit fans out of the stadium in a more structured way. Again, potentially exiting as sections will help keep groups together.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Frequent cleaning of high touch areas and continuing education on healthy practices.
Â
Please remember, we are working through details and will communicate as our plans develop. Season ticket holders who have purchased their tickets and are not comfortable with the mitigation plans will have the option of requesting a refund or crediting the payment to the 2021 season. We want you to make an informed decision on whether or not you attend a game.
Â
I am proud to be a Griz. I look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Â
Go Griz!
