Griz add Monday-night game vs. SAGU AIC
12/12/2021 11:54:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Montana has added a home men's basketball game vs. SAGU AIC (Southwestern Assemblies of God University American Indian College) scheduled for Monday night at 7 p.m.
Â
The game is a late addition to the schedule after the Grizzlies' contest vs. UNC Wilmington, scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, was canceled due to a flu outbreak on the Seahawks' roster. That game will go down as a 'no contest' allowing Montana to add Monday's game vs. SAGU AIC.
Â
Monday starts a stretch of Division-I games for SAGU AIC, with the Warriors next playing Dixie State on Thursday, followed by Idaho (Dec. 18) and Montana State (Dec. 22). SAGU AIC plays in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association), the same league that Yellowstone Christian College – Montana's opponent from last Friday – plays in.
Â
AIC was originally founded in 1957 by missionary Alta Washburn, who 'saw the great need to prepare Native Americans for church ministry'. In 2016, AIC partnered with Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), becoming SAGU AIC. SAGU AIC is the nation's only Christian college campus serving primarily Native American students. The college is located in Phoenix, Arizona.
Â
Montana enters Monday night's tilt with a 7-4 record, most-recently beating Yellowstone Christian College by 61 points. For those who cannot attend the game in person, it will be broadcast on ESPN+ and throughout the Grizzly Radio Network.
