Tom Gage Classic concludes regular season, serves as conference tune-up
5/4/2021 10:35:00 AM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Montana will close its regular season on Wednesday with 40 athletes competing in Bozeman for the annual Tom Gage Classic. The meet will be Montana's final tune-up prior to next week's Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah.
Â
For some athletes, Wednesday will be an opportunity for fine tuning, giving athletes the chance to tweak techniques or try to hit marks heading into the conference meet. For others, this will be their final meet of the season and will be used more as one final meet to close the year on a high note and provide momentum heading into the offseason.
Â
Several of Montana's top point-scorers will not compete this week, instead choosing to rest and recover in order to be at top performance next week.
Â
Among the athletes competing, Montana will be heavy in the men's distance events, with five athletes competing in the 1,500 meters, four in the 800 meters and three in the 5,000. On the other hand, no female distance runners will compete on Wednesday.
Â
Ailsa Gilbert and Holly Sudol will have full days, however, competing in three events apiece.
Â
The meet, featuring athletes from both Montana and Montana State, will begin at 2 p.m. with the women's javelin. Track events will start at 4 p.m. Live results can be tracked online.
