Montana senior offensive tackle Dylan Cook and senior linebacker Jace Lewis will join head coach Bobby Hauck in Spokane this weekend as the annual Big Sky Conference Football Kickoff media days return July 24-26.
Â
Fans can tune in to the ESPN+ streaming service on Monday, July 26, to get an in-person preview of the 2021 season from the head coach and two players from each of the league's 13 teams starting at 10:30 a.m. (MT) and running through roughly 4:00 p.m. (MT). Montana's representatives will be on-air from roughly 2:40 to 3:00 p.m. (MT).
Â
Fans can also follow the Griz on social media @MontanaGrizFB on Twitter and @montanagrizfootball on Instagram for exclusive interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at the kickoff.
Â
Cook and Lewis arrive in Spokane mid-day on Saturday and will open the weekend with a community service project where all student-athlete representatives will provide a skills clinic for area kids.
Â
The players will then take part in a full day of interview and film shoots for the Big Sky and its broadcast partners on Sunday, and the conference will announce its preseason MVPs.
Â
On Monday, the Grizzlies will meet with the league's media and sit with ROOT Sports and ESPN for feature interviews, and the Big Sky will announce its preseason poll and preseason all-conference selections.
Â
Cook is a two-year starter at tackle on a Grizzly offensive line that helped running back Marcus Knight become Montana's first 1,000-yard rusher in five years in the 2019 season and helped the Griz rack up 1,040 yards of total offense in two games in the spring of 2021.
Â
After transferring from Montana State Northern in 2018, the Butte native and former walk-on successfully made the unusual transition from quarterback to O-line and was a second-team All-Big Sky preseason pick by Phil Steele Magazine in the summer of 2020.
Â
Lewis was picked as Montana's third-straight Big Sky Preseason Defensive MVP in the leadup to the since-canceled 2020 fall season and returns in 2021 to prove he's one of the top linebackers in FCS football.
Â
The Townsend, Montana, native is currently 37th on UM's all-time tackler list with 219 career stops after a breakout junior season where he was one of two Grizzlies that were among the top-five tacklers in the Big Sky Conference in 2019. That season he put in 131 tackles to earn first-team all-conference honors.
Â
Hauck is in his 10th overall season at the helm of the Grizzlies. He led UM to a pair of wins in the spring season where the Griz outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 107-10. In 2019 he helped lead the Grizzlies back to the FCS Quarterfinals for the first time in a decade.
Â
Montana's all-time winningest coach, Hauck enters the 2021 season with an overall record of 98-26 with the Griz (57-12 in Big Sky play), just two wins shy of 100 career victories at UM.
