Griz set to open fall camp Sunday

After a successful spring season, the Montana football team makes its highly anticipated return to action next week when the Grizzlies report for fall camp on Sunday, Aug. 8.

In the team's third full season (and 10th overall season) under head coach Bobby Hauck, the Griz begin their 18-practice fall camp slate a day later on Monday, Aug. 9.

Once again, all fall camp practices through Aug. 28 will be held at UM's Dornblaser Field at the south campus athletic complex. The schedule will see the Griz in action six days a week, Monday through Saturday, with Sundays off.

Montana's will hold its first practice of the year on the evening of the ninth when the Griz take the field at 6:30 p.m. The remainder of UM's fall camp practices are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. until the Griz return to their normal game-week schedule on Aug. 30.

Practices at Dornblaser Field are open to the public unless otherwise noted in the schedule below.

Montana returns 14 starters from 2019's FCS quarterfinal team and 20 starters from the two dominant wins in the spring of 2021, where the Griz took apart Central Washington and Portland State by a combined score of 107-10 in non-conference action.

UM also returns five All-Big Sky selections from 2019 and landed five players on the 2021 preseason all-conference team, with receiver Samuel Akem and linebacker Jace Lewis earning spots on preseason national player of the year lists.

The Grizzlies open the 2021 season on the road in Seattle against the University of Washington on Sept. 4, followed by the home opener in Missoula on Sept. 11 against Western Illinois.
