Northern Arizona ran away with the team titles on both the men's and women's sides, with Idaho and Montana State also finishing in the top-four for both genders. Montana's women tied for seventh place, with 44 points, while the men finished eighth, at 30.5 points.
Below are highlights from Saturday's action:
- Junior Jansen Ziola, who on Friday earned a silver medal in the long jump, once again reached the podium on Saturday, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.57). Ziola qualified for the finals with a big PR on Friday (by three-tenths of a second), before running a similar time during Saturday's finals. Both of her times – she ran an 8.53 during Friday's preliminary race – were within striking distance of Lindsey Hall's school record (8.48).
- Jaydon Green finished an historic junior season with a podium finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Green, who earlier this year broke a 41-year-old school record in the event, finished third on Saturday (8.09). The junior previously scored in the event in 2020, placing seventh.
- Both sophomore Ailsa Gilbert (38-9) and freshman Whitney Morrison (37-9.5) PR'd in the women's triple jump, with Gilbert scoring points with a sixth-place finish. Gilbert also scored in the 60-meter hurdles, placing seventh (9.04).
- One of the biggest positive surprises came from Kaitlyn Gallo, who had a 3-foot PR in the weight throw to finish sixth. The freshman was seeded 11th entering the meet – including third of three Montana entries – but finished as the Grizzlies' top thrower.
- Montana had four scorers across four throwing events on the weekend, with both senior Brent Yeakey and Noah Ramirez scoring in the men's shot put. Yeakey – Montana's record-holder in the event – placed fourth (57-8.25) while Ramirez (54-10) finished sixth, PRing by nearly a foot. On Friday, freshman Matt Ward finished sixth in the men's weight throw.
- Montana was the only school to have two athletes finish in the top seven in the women's 60 meters, with Emma Normand (sixth) and Catie Buck (7.70) both scoring after advancing to Saturday's finals.
- Already one of Montana's most-decorated runners in recent memory, junior Paul Johnstone – a two-time Big Sky champion and outdoor record-holder in the 4x400-meter relay – scored for the fifth consecutive championship event, placing seventh in the 400 meter finals (49.82).
- In her first championship meet, sophomore Bridget Boyle scored in the women's 1 mile (5:03.78), finishing eighth after being seeded 25th.
- Montana's biggest event by number was the men's 3,000 meters, with seven runners competing. Four runners finished higher than their seeded position, including several by more than 20 places. One of the biggest jumps came from sophomore Ben Vanderbosch, who placed 15th (after being seeded 45th) with an 11-second PR (8:33.87).
- Freshmen Emma Zimmerman (ninth) and Shealyne McGee (10th) narrowly missed scoring, both clearing 11-10 in the women's pole vault – technically tied for eight but clearing after Idaho State's Lindsey Jones-Sagendorf did.
