Griz head to Track Town USA for big meet
3/31/2022 1:45:00 PM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Montana is sending 30 of its top track & field athletes to Track Town USA this weekend to compete in the Hayward Premiere at the historic Hayward Field. Just in the second week of the outdoor season, it will be a big opportunity for the Grizzlies, who will go up against some of the nation's top athletes. Many schools from across the western United States will send athletes to this weekend's meet in Oregon, including nearly the entire Pac-12 and Big Sky conferences.
Â
Among the 13 females traveling to Eugene, nine will double up (or in some instances, triple or quadruple up), and will compete in several events. Among the group, Ailsa Gilbert and Jaree Mane will each compete in four events, while Carlee Fryberger, Morgan Radtke and Jansen Ziola will participate in three apiece.
Â
Four of the aforementioned athletes are registered for the women's 200 meters, a field that includes six Griz athletes. Montana also has four athletes scheduled for the 100-meter hurdles.
Â
For the men, the majority of Montana's 17 athletes will come in the running events. The largest event, by number, is the 5,000 meters, with four male runners participating.
Â
In the field, Montana is sending several athletes who had strong showings last week at the Al Manuel Invitational, including Jason Upton (jumps), Brent Yeakey (throws) and Evan Todd – the reigning Big Sky Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week (javelin).
Â
The meet is scheduled to begin Friday at 3:30 p.m. (MT) with the men's hammer throw. Running events will begin Friday at 6:45 p.m., and will carry on deep into the night. Saturday's action picks back up at noon (MT). Fans can follow along with live results or watch the action with a RunnerSpace+ subscription.
