
Montana tops Big Sky with 77 academic selections

Montana's fall sports teams of men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball combined for 77 Academic All-Big Sky Conference selections, the league office announced on Thursday.

Montana's 77 selections matched Weber State's total for most in the Big Sky.

Montana's soccer program had 19 selections, which placed second in the league, while men's cross country and football both tied for second in their sport, with 10 and 28 selections, respectively.

The women's cross country team's 10 selections were one off the league high, the Griz volleyball team's 10 selections were two off the Big Sky high.
Â
Montana had 55 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the fall semester, a total the was behind only Eastern Washington (59) and Idaho (56).

The full Academic All-Big Sky list included 727 student-athletes from across the league, 280 in football, 159 in soccer, 104 in volleyball, 103 in women's cross country and 81 in men's cross country.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Sky honors, student-athletes must have competed in at least half of their team's competitions in the fall and had at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA following the fall semester.

Cross country athletes also were eligible if they didn't meet the 50 percent criterion but raced at the Big Sky Championship.
