Montana places 51 on Academic All-Big Sky list

The Montana Department of Athletics had 51 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big Sky Conference teams for winter sports, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

The Grizzlies had 20 women's indoor track and field athletes recognized, 17 more from the men's team, eight from women's basketball and six from men's basketball.

Coach Travis DeCuire's men's basketball team's six selections led the Big Sky in that sport.

Montana's women's basketball team tied for third within the league, the men's indoor track and field team ranked fourth.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Sky consideration, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better and competed in at least half of their teams' competitions during the season.

Forty-one of Montana's 51 selections had a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher after the fall semester, four had a GPA of 4.0: Dani Bartsch (women's basketball), Jay Beagle (men's indoor track and field), Beatrix Frissell (women's indoor track and field) and Jaree Mane (women's indoor track and field).
