Griz add junior college transfer

The Montana softball program has added some depth to its roster with the addition of transfer Jessica Stanfield, who spent last season at Yakima Valley College in Washington.

Stanfield, from Montesano, Wash., will be a sophomore when the Grizzlies open their fall schedule next month.

"We're excited to add Jessica to our roster and welcome her into the Griz Softball family," said coach Melanie Meuchel. "Montana is a place she has showed a lot of interest in.

"We have always watched and followed what she has been doing and felt like this is the right time for her to be in our program."

Stanfield, who plays the outfield and also some infield positions, batted .434 last season at Yakima Valley and had a .672 slugging percentage.

She led the Yaks in hits (53), doubles (15) and runs (37) while tying for the team lead in home runs (4) and RBIs (31).

"Jessica has a big stick. She's very athletic and can play multiple positions. We're excited about her versatility and her athleticism," added Meuchel.
