Griz fall to Roadrunners, Rebels in Vegas

The Montana softball team lost games to CSU Bakersfield and the host Rebels on Saturday as the UNLV Desert Classic continued in Las Vegas.

The Grizzlies lost to the Roadrunners for the second time in two days, 7-3, then closed the day with a 14-6, five-inning loss to UNLV.
Â
The losses dropped Montana to 0-9 on the season.
Â
The Grizzlies fell behind the Roadrunners 6-0 after four innings before scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Â
Hannah Jablonski made it 6-2 with a two-run home run to left, her second home run of the season. Kendall Curtis made it 6-3 with a fielder's choice that scored Kelly Sweyer.
Â
Freshman Grace Haegele took the loss. She allowed six runs, only two of which were earned, and five hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Montana was limited to five hits by New Mexico transfer Brianna Sanchez, who threw a complete game.

The Grizzlies lost to UNLV on Saturday evening, allowing the Rebels to score one in the first, one in the second, 10 in the third, one in the fourth and a walk-off run in the fifth.

Montana scored a season-high six runs thanks to the bat of Grace Hardy, who had a hand in all of the Grizzlies' runs.

She led off the top of the third with an infield single and later scored on an RBI single by Julie Phelps that made it 2-1.

With Montana trailing 12-1 after UNLV scored 10 runs on six hits in the bottom of the third, Hardy made it 12-4 with a three-run home run to left on a 1-0 pitch in the top of the fourth.

She made it 13-6 in the top of the fifth with a two-out, bases-loaded single down the right-field line. She had three of Montana's seven hits in the game.

The game ended in the bottom of the fifth on a hit batter with the bases loaded.

Allie Brock got the start and went 1 1/3 innings. Maggie Joseph and Haegele pitched in relief.

Montana will face Hawaii at 10:30 a.m. (MT) on Sunday morning. The Grizzlies lost 10-1 to the Rainbow Wahine on Friday afternoon.
