The Montana men's tennis team ended its weekend trip to Boise on a high note early Monday morning, sweeping George Fox University 4-0 in a neutral site dual played to clinch at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
With a full and healthy lineup available, the Griz made quick work of the Bruins, who checked-in as the No. 28 D-III team in the nation this week.
Montana got quick wins on courts three and one in doubles and won three-straight singles matches without giving up more than three games to take the 4-0 victory.
UM returns to Missoula after going 2-1 on the trip to Boise, with wins over San Francisco and George Fox and a Sunday loss to Boise State. The Griz improve to 9-6 overall and sit at 1-1 in conference play with the heart of the Big Sky schedule around the corner.
"That was the perfect way to cap our weekend. George Fox is very competitive, but we did exactly what we were supposed to do. I think it was great prep for our conference slate coming up," said head coach Jason Brown.
Moritz Stoeger returned from an illness Saturday and partnered with fellow German Tom Bittner to get a 6-2 win on court three over GFU's Fujimori/Schmassmann pair.
The Griz clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one where UM sophomore Gustav Theilgaard also returned from illness and reunited with George Russell to improve their doubles record to 8-4 on the season.
In singles, Theilgaard made the most of his return, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eli Mizerski on court one for UM's second point of the day.
Stoeger also bounced back strong, beating Vahag Pashaan in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 on court two to increase Montana's lead to 3-0.
Freshman Baltazar Wiger-Nordas also returned to his winning ways, clinching the victory for UM with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Camden Camacho with three singles matches left unfinished.
UP NEXT: The Griz dive head first into the heart of their Big Sky schedule and set their sights squarely on returning to the conference championship tourney in Phoenix in late April.
Montana can take a big step toward that goal as the Griz head south on I-15 once again to take on the two teams picked right behind them in the preseason poll. With UM picked fourth, the Griz can get the upper hand on returning to Phoenix with a win over the preseason No. 6 Wildcats on Friday, March 24, and the No. 5 Bengals on Sunday, March 26.
