MISSOULA - Montana's men's and women's tennis teams earned national academic recognition Monday from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after posting the two best team GPAs in Grizzly Athletics over the 2025-26 school year.
The men posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.83, while the women recorded a program-best 3.91 in the spring semester. Both squads earned ITA All-Academic Team honors. A combined 17 players - nine from the men's team and eight from the women's - also earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
ITA Scholar-Athlete standards require a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the full academic year, a higher bar than standard academic all-conference thresholds. ITA All-Academic Team honors require a combined 3.2 GPA or above among eligible letterwinners.
Head coach Jason Brown's men's team capped another strong season on the court with an equally impressive performance in the classroom, taking home the Dustin Hollist Award for the best cumulative GPA in Grizzly Athletics for an eighth consecutive season.
Big Sky MVP and three-time UM President's Award winner Tom Bittner, who holds the top male student-athlete GPA in Grizzly Athletics, was among nine ITA Scholar-Athletes honored for the men's team. Also recognized were Moritz Lesjak, Joseph Townes, Baltazar Wiger-Nordas, Duncan McCall, Matthew Upton, Johnny Wilkinson, Eivind Tandberg and Dragos Bucurescu.
Head coach Steve Ascher's women's team earned All-Academic Team honors for the 15th consecutive year after recording one of the best single-semester GPAs in program history - a 3.91 in the spring.
All eight members of the roster earned individual honors: Shivika Agrawal, Meghna Anand, Paige Bott, Monika Fizova, Kaylin Kielty, Kelsey Phillips, Kate Prichard and Kamila Slovakova.
In 2026, 1,008 Division I men's and 1,501 women's student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition nationwide. A total of 231 women's tennis programs and 162 men's programs received All-Academic Team honors.
