Griz drop finale at San Diego Classic

The Montana softball team lost its final game at the San Diego Classic on Sunday, falling to co-host San Diego State in five innings, 16-0.

The Grizzlies (0-20) gave up five runs in the first two innings, then 11 more in the top of the fifth, the highest-scoring inning by an opponent in program history.

Montana got outscored in five games at the tournament 54-4 and allowed Boston University, San Diego, Long Beach State and San Diego State to bat .443.

Sunday's outcome was the largest margin of defeat in program history.

Allie Brock got the start and allowed two runs on two hits in the top of the first, three runs on three hits in the top of the second.

After limiting the Aztecs to one hit over the third and fourth innings, Montana gave up 11 runs in the fifth on nine hits. Eight of the runs were unearned after the Grizzlies committed two errors in the inning.

Montana was limited to two hits. Chloe Saxton led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle. Kendall Curtis led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to center.

Montana will play five games next weekend against UNLV (13-6) and the host Redhawks (15-5) at the Seattle Invitational.
