Montana places 83 on spring Academic All-Big Sky teams

Montana landed 83 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big Sky Conference teams for spring sports, the league office announced on Tuesday. Montana's total ranked second in the Big Sky.

Coach Steve Ascher's women's tennis team had seven selections, which tied for the league high in that sport. Coach Doug Fraley's outdoor track and field programs both had the second-highest total.

Fraley's women's track and field team had 31 selections, his men's team had 22.

Montana also had 12 softball selections, six from men's tennis and five from women's golf.
Â
To be eligible, student-athletes needed at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA through the spring semester and to have participated in at least half of their teams' competitions.

"I'd like to congratulate all 640-plus student-athletes who have been named to our spring academic teams," Big Sky Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said. "Dedicating yourself to not only your sport but your academics takes a lot of work and persistence.

"To have so many representatives is an indication that the institutions in this league are helping our student-athletes keep academics a priority."
