The Montana soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at Sacramento State on Friday afternoon at Hornet Field in Sacramento.
Â
The Grizzlies (9-2-4, 3-0-2 BSC) out-shot the Hornets 22-8 and limited the home side to just two shots on goal, but Montana couldn't break through on any of its chances.
Â
"That's what you get in conference play sometimes. You huff and puff and sometimes the ball just doesn't go in," said coach Chris Citowicki, whose team went scoreless for the first time since Sept. 5.
Â
Montana had possession of the ball for 60 percent of the match on Friday.
Â
"I'm not at all disappointed with the effort or the performance we put in," added Citowicki. "I thought it was spectacular. The ball just didn't go in the goal today."
Â
After more of a 50-50 match in the first 45 minutes, the Grizzlies were on the attack for most of the second half, owning possession and taking 11 shots, putting four on goal.
Â
"We just needed to commit more bodies forward, especially out of the back," said Citowicki, "so Reeve (Borseth) and Ally (Henrikson) were pushing up a lot more, overloading certain spots.
Â
"We had some really good looks, some balls in behind that were right there. Sometimes it just doesn't go in. Kudos to Sacramento. They defended well."
Â
The draw keeps Montana unbeaten in its last 10 matches and unbeaten in its last 13 against the Hornets (4-6-5, 2-2-2 BSC), going 10-0-3 against Sacramento State since 2014.
Â
Bayliss Flynn made two saves to record her seventh shutout in 10 starts. She upped her record to 6-0-4.
Â
"Most important in games like this is you can't give up one going the other way," said Citowicki, whose team allowed only three second-half shots.
Â
"You can't become so obsessed with trying to score that you forget to defend. Shout-out to Reeve and (Ally) and Charley (Boone) with the way they defended."
Â
Maddie Ditta took a career-high eight shots, Kayla Rendon Bushmaker and Chloe Seelhoff both took three. Boone, Borseth and Ditta played all 90 minutes.
Â
Montana will host Portland State (3-6-4, 1-1-3 BSC) at noon on Sunday in the Grizzlies' final home match of the regular season. The Vikings play at Northern Arizona on Friday night.
