Griz drop finale in Ogden

The Montana softball team dropped the series finale at Weber State on Saturday afternoon, falling 12-4 in five innings at Wildcat Softball Field in Ogden, Utah.

The Wildcats (15-16, 3-0 BSC), who won by scores of 6-5 and 2-0 in Friday's doubleheader, batted .377 over three games to sweep the series from the Grizzlies (12-20, 0-3 BSC).

Weber State scored three runs in the first and three more in the second to take a 6-0 lead before Montana had its first hit.

After the Grizzlies scored their first run in the top of the fourth to make it 6-1, the Wildcats added five runs in the bottom half of the inning, then won it on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Presley Jantzi, who has hit safely in 22 of Montana's last 25 games, went 1 for 2 to up her season batting average to .432. Riley Peschek had two hits, as did Elise Ontiveros.

Weber State got to starter Emmalyn Brinka for three runs in the first inning. Rylee Rehbein allowed six runs in 2 2/3 inning of relief, Grace Haegele allowed the final three runs over 2/3 of an inning.

Trailing 6-0 after three innings, Montana got on the scoreboard when Peschek led off the top of the fourth with a triple to the corner in right. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Kelly Sweyer.

Weber State led 11-1 after four innings.

Montana cut its deficit to 11-3 in the top of the fifth when Kynzie Mohl had a two-run pinch-hit single up the middle. Peschek later added an RBI single.

The Wildcats walked it off in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run that gave them a run-rule victory.

Montana batted .271 for the series and finished with an 8.31 ERA.
