Griz close with 292, Ports ties for 14th

The Montana women's golf team closed the two-day Eagle Invitational with a 292 on Monday at Circling Raven Golf Club in Worley, Idaho.

It matched the fifth-best round in program history and had the Grizzlies, who carded a 301 on Sunday, in ninth place out of 13 teams when the final putt dropped. Ten teams shot 297 or better on Monday.

Raina Ports shot rounds of 71 and 74 at the 36-hole tournament to tie for 14th in the individual standings.
Â
Freshman Bella Johnson (75-74) and Elle Higgins (77-72) tied for 27th, Kendall Hayward (78-72), who matched Higgins' even-par round on Monday, tied for 29th.

Eighteen-hole leader CSU Northridge (286-289) held on for a three-stroke victory over late-charging North Dakota State (297-281), which shot a 7-under team score for the final round.
Â
Seattle (291-293), Montana State (299-286) and UC Riverside (292-294) rounded out the top five.

Eight players finished the tournament under par, five more at even par, with CSU Northridge's Ariya Soldwisch (69-69) and Montana State's Lauren Greeny (72-66) both finishing 6-under.

Madison Cecil (78-79) tied for 54th, Hannah Ports (82-77) and Kate Bogenschutz (81-78) tied for 61st, and Kylie Franklin (78-82) tied for 65th.

Montana won't play again until the Tri-State Invitational on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 6-7. The 36-hole tournament will be played at The Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane, Wash.
