Montana concludes play at shortened Red Rocks Invitational

In a three-day tournament that was shortened to a split round of 18 holes, Montana finished with a team score of 325 on Sunday to place 18th at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz.

The 19 competing teams got in half a round on Friday before the arrival of blowing snow suspended play.

Saturday was weathered out and the decision was made to turn a 54-hole tournament into an 18-hole event, with teams concluding Friday's round on Sunday.

Hannah Ports (78) tied for 71st, Elle Higgins (79) tied for 79th, Raina Ports (80) tied for 85th, Kendall Hayward (88) tied for 110th and Kate Bogenschutz (91) finished 112th.

Competing as an individual, Bella Johnson (84) tied for 103rd.

Hannah Ports was excellent on Friday as the tournament opened, playing the back nine at even par. Playing the front nine on Sunday, Ports was 6-over.

Higgins played her first five holes of the tournament at 6-over. She played her final 13 holes at 1-over.

Grand Canyon (288) won the team title by one stroke over host Northern Arizona (289). South Dakota State (291), North Dakota State (291) and Illinois State (292) rounded out the top five.

Fourteen players shot under par for the split round, with Northern Arizona's Ellena Slater (69) earning medalist honors over four players who shot 2-under 70. Nine players carded a 71.

Montana will return to Arizona next month for the Cowgirl Classic, which will be played at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa on April 2-3.
