The Montana softball team wrapped up its four-game road trip to the state of Colorado with a 9-1 loss to Colorado State on Sunday at Ram Field in Fort Collins.
Â
Hannah Jablonski opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first, her second of the season. The Rams (13-20) used six extra-base hits to score the next nine runs to win in five innings.
Â
The Grizzlies (7-28) opened the weekend with a competitive three-game series at Northern Colorado, the Big Sky Conference preseason favorite.
Â
Montana led Game 1 in the fifth inning, allowed one earned run in Game 2 and was in a deadlock in Game 3 in the seventh inning, with the Bears pulling out wins in all three.
Â
The Grizzlies got off to a good start on Sunday when Jablonski hit her eighth career home run in the top of the first to put Montana up 1-0.
Â
It was all Rams after that, as Colorado State scored in each of the first four innings to pull away. CSU hit three doubles in the victory, a triple and a pair of home runs.
Â
Montana's only other hit in the game after Jablonski's home run was a single by Anna Cockhill in the top of the third. She later stole second, her 20th stolen base of the season in 23 attempts.
Â
Cameryn Ortega got the start for Montana and gave up six runs on six hits in three innings. Brianna Lachermeier pitched the bottom of the fourth and gave up three runs on four hits.
Â
Montana will host Weber State in a three-game series at Grizzly Softball Field later this week. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 2 p.m., a single game at noon on Saturday.
Â
The Wildcats (13-23, 2-1 BSC) opened league over the weekend taking two of three at home from Portland State, winning 6-1 and 4-0, and falling 9-6.
