The Montana men's basketball team has made its first transfer addition of the 2025 offseason, signing Kadyn Betts to a scholarship contract. Betts comes to Montana after spending the previous two seasons at Minnesota.
Â
Betts, a 6-8 forward, played 30 games for the Golden Gophers in his two years. He scored 40 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had three assists. He shot 40.0 percent from three-point range last season, going 6-of-15 from deep.
Â
"I'm very excited, Kadyn will be a great addition to our program," head coach Travis DeCuire said. "Versatility, athleticism, hunger, these are the types of guys that we've been successful with over the years transferring down from a high major. Guys that we are familiar with from recruiting during their days in high school, so this is an old relationship that we're looking forward to growing."
Â
He graduated early from Pueblo Central HS in Pueblo, Colo. and enrolled early at Minnesota. He averaged 22.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game in his final season at the high school level.
Â
The fantastic final season led to 4A First Team All-State honors while leading Pueblo Central to a 23-4 record and a Final Four appearance. Betts also played club basketball for the P.L.U.T.O. Prospects in Colorado Springs.Â
Â
Betts' father Kevin played at San Diego State and his brother Kobi played at Air Force and Colorado School of Mines. Betts has a Montana connection as he is from the same hometown as Griz great Jordan Gregory.
Â
Montana recruited Betts out of high school, giving both player and program some familiarity. The family culture of the Grizzlies stood out, as did the program's rich history of winning.
Â
"The coaching staff, they recruited me in high school a little bit so we had a connection," Betts said. "Then being able to go down there and spend time with the staff and seeing how they operate like a family. The family culture, and also the winning culture that they have, was kind of a no-brainer."
Â
The versatile junior forward said that he wants to do whatever he can in Missoula to impact winning for the Grizzlies.
Â
"I want to be part of that winning culture. I want to contribute to winning for the Griz, so this is a great opportunity," Betts said. "I'm somebody that is going to go out there and play their hardest every single night and do whatever they can to contribute to winning and just do that night in and night out."
