Head coach Travis DeCuire and the Grizzlies have picked up another portal addition. Courtney Anderson Jr., who spent the last two seasons with Colorado, has signed a scholarship contract with the University of Montana.
Anderson is a 6-5 guard that redshirted his first season in Boulder and appeared in four games during the 2024-25 campaign. He scored two points and grabbed three rebounds for the Buffs.
Anderson and the Grizzlies have history as Montana initially recruited him out of high school. He is a 2023 graduate of Dublin HS in Dublin, Calif, and will add to the long legacy of Bay Area players for the Grizzlies.
"It's a lot like Dischon Thomas, Ahmaad Rorie, guys that we recruit for a long time that go a level higher. They later decide they are looking for something that fits them a little better, more opportunity, things like that," head coach Travis DeCuire said. "We usually get the first phone call just because of the relationship."
In high school, Anderson was a four-star recruit and ranked by ESPN as the 15th best player in California and 31st best player at his position.
"I'm super excited. They've been recruiting me since I was a junior in high school, and I felt like the right time was now to join the program," Anderson said. "The relationship was really important, it was a deciding factor in me deciding to go there. I've known Travis and Coach Cobb and Coach Flores for a long time so knowing how they operate helped me feel comfortable going there."
He will be a redshirt sophomore for the Grizzlies, and is still young for his grade at just 19 years old. In high school, Anderson averaged over 20 points per game as a junior and was effective on both ends of the floor for a team that went 8-1 in the East Bay.
"We're excited to add Courtney to the roster. Big, athletic guard with the ability to put the ball in the basket," DeCuire said. "He will fit in very well here. His ceiling is really high in terms of his talent and his want to be a good basketball player. Sometimes guys just need a fresh start, and I think he's one of them."
Anderson joins Kadyn Betts from Minnesota as the first two offseason signings for Montana.
