Griz fall to Eagles in season finale

Grizzly senior Rosie Sterk made it a Senior Day sweep with wins in singles and doubles, but it wasn't enough to see the Montana Women's tennis team through as Eastern Washington topped the Griz 6-1 at the Peak Racquet Club on Sunday.
The Grizzlies opened the match with a loss in the doubles round by the narrowest of margins, splitting the sets on courts one and three with a win from Sterk and fellow senior Grace Haugen on court one, but falling in a tiebreaker on the deciding court to give the Eagles the 1-0 team advantage.
In singles, Montana's two seniors fought their way to third sets in each match to set up a potential comeback for the Griz. Sterk got UM on the board by pulling out a bounce-back win on court three, but Haugen eventually ran out of gas on court one, falling to Isabella Foshee to clinch the win for the Eagles.
Haugen and Sterk complete their senior seasons as one of the top doubles pairs in the conference at 12-5 overall and 6-2 together in league play, the second-most wins of any pair in the Big Sky this season. It's a position they've held throughout their careers in Missoula, with each holding multiple All-Big Sky honors.
Sterk also finished her time in maroon and silver with a pair of big singles wins in consecutive weeks, beating her opponent from Montana State last week and defeating EWU's Kenzington Mann 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 on court three for UM's only win of the day.
Montana was a superbreaker away from pulling out a second win on court six when the defending Big Sky Player of the Week Kate Prichard dropped her first set in a tiebreaker, won her second set, but eventually fell to Sara Vasic in a marathon 10-point third-set tiebreaker 1-0 (10).
The loss completes Montana's season at 4-14 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Eastern Washington also caps its season out of postseason contention at 5-14 and 3-5 in the Big Sky.
