Idaho State scored an early goal and added another midway through the second half to defeat the Montana soccer team 2-0 at South Campus Stadium in Missoula on Thursday afternoon.

The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Bengals against the Grizzlies and gave Idaho State its first victory over Montana in Missoula since 2014.

The Bengals (3-7-4, 1-2-2 BSC) hadn't scored a goal through their first four Big Sky Conference matches but got what would be the game-winner in the eighth minute.

A mis-touch by a Montana defender allowed Syleena Hogan to pounce on a loose ball and score from seven yards out.

The match remained scoreless until Emma Casenave scored an insurance goal in the 70th minute.

Saydree Cooke played a ball from the end line to the front of goal that Casenave, who had checked into the match only seconds earlier, re-directed into goal.

It was the first goal of the season for both Hogan and Casenave.

Grace Morton played all 90 minutes for Montana (3-8-0, 1-2-0 BSC) and took four of the Grizzlies' nine shots.

Megan Wilson-Sofield took three, including one early in the second half, a high, bending shot from distance, that ISU goalkeeper Aliya Garrett had to punch into the crossbar to keep her team up 1-0.

Morton, Ellen Hampton, Elli Lewis, Lucie Rokos and Grace Olson played 90 minutes for the Grizzlies. Avery Heeb made a pair of saves.

Montana will host Big Sky preseason favorite Weber State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Wildcats (7-6-2, 3-1-1 BSC) took their first league loss on Thursday, falling 2-1 at what had been last-place Portland State.
