Utah Tech scored a pair of first-half goals and they proved to be the difference as the Trailblazers stayed unbeaten in league with a 2-0 victory over Montana on Sunday at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George, Utah.
Â
Utah Tech (6-4-1, 2-0-0 BSC), which opened its Big Sky Conference schedule with a 2-1 home win over Portland State on Thursday, scored the match's only goals on Sunday in the 17th and 38th minutes.
Â
The Trailblazers out-shot the Grizzlies 16-10 and finished with a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Elle Rafajko made three saves to record her third shutout of the season.
Â
Utah Tech went up 1-0 at 16:35 on an own goal, when a cross from the right side was kicked into the Montana net by a Grizzly defender who was trying to clear the ball in traffic.
Â
Ella Cotter made it 2-0 at 37:02 when she collected a through-ball and beat Montana goalkeeper Avery Heeb inside the right post.
Â
Heeb finished with six saves, one off her season high.
Â
Montana (3-7-0, 1-1-0 BSC), which won 1-0 at Southern Utah on Thursday afternoon in the Grizzlies' Big Sky opener, dropped to .500 in league after one week of league matches.
Â
Elli Lewis took three of Montana's 10 shots. Grace Morton and Shiana Samarasinghe both took two.
Â
Both of Samarasinghe's shots were on goal, including her well-struck ball from the left side in the 87th minute that Rafajko had to leap high to push over the crossbar.
Â
Montana won't play again until hosting Idaho State and Weber State on Thursday, Oct. 15, and Sunday, Oct. 18, at South Campus Stadium in Missoula.
