The Montana soccer team, seeking its first Division I victory of the season, scored the opening goal and was in a 1-1 deadlock at the half, but Wyoming scored twice in the second half to pull away for a 3-1 victory on Friday evening at South Campus Stadium in Missoula.

The Cowgirls, projected to be one of the top teams in the Mountain West Conference, won their fourth straight match to improve to 6-2-0. The Grizzlies dropped to 2-5-0.

Freshman Grace Morton scored her first collegiate goal in the 16th minute, collecting a loose ball and drilling a shot into the lower right corner from 25 yards out. It was Montana's first goal against a Division I opponent this season.

Wyoming answered back less than two minutes later to even the score. The teams would go to the locker room tied 1-1.

The Cowgirls took their first lead in the 54th minute, when Maddie Burr was stopped by Griz goalkeeper Avery Heeb, but the rebound went back to Burr, who scored her third goal of the season.

Isabel Vasco scored her third goal of the season in the 88th minute to put Wyoming up 3-1.

Heeb finished the match with six saves, a season high.

Montana plays at Gonzaga (2-4-1) on Sunday, Sept. 20, in Spokane. The Bulldogs play at Creighton on Sunday, then host Utah Valley on Wednesday.
