The Montana soccer team lost 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Denver on the back end of a road trip that began with a canceled match at Air Force on Thursday because of travel complications.

The Pioneers (1-3-2), who collected their first win of the year, scored the game-winner in the eighth minute, then added an insurance goal in the 60th.

The Grizzlies (2-4-0) generated six corner kicks, their most this season against a Division I opponent, but got out-shot 10-5 and were held without a shot on goal over 90 minutes.

Megan Wilson-Sofield took two of Montana's five shots and created the Grizzlies' best chance to get on the scoreboard but her strong attempt in the 71st minute sailed just over the crossbar.

Avery Heeb made three saves for Montana, while Denver's Lucy Garnsey lowered her goals-against average to 0.83 with her second shutout of the season.

First-year Montana coach Stuart Gore went six players into his bench, with freshmen Cate Gusick and Grace Russell getting their first minutes of the season.

Montana will host Wyoming (5-2-0) on Friday at 5 p.m. at South Campus Stadium. The Cowgirls won 2-0 at Eastern Washington on Sunday, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.
