2012-13: He was a squad member. He was moved from linebacker to tight end in the spring of 2013.
2011: He was a redshirt at UM.
HIGH SCHOOL: He earned 12 letters at Butte Central High School: four each in football, basketball, and track. He was all-state in all three sports: twice in football and in hoops, and once in track. He played defensive end and wide receiver. He served as a team captain in football and basketball. He had 95 career receptions, including a single-season school record 55 catches in 2009. When his team lost its starting quarterback due to injury his senior year he switched positions and moved to quarterback, and he passed for 1,790 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 379 yards and six TDs. He guided the Maroons to a 9-2 record his senior season. His high school football coach was Don Peoples.
PERSONAL: His major is history. Birth date: Sept. 19, 1992. His parents are Cyndy and Toby Richards of Butte. His cousin, Aschan Richards, is a junior defensive end at UM.
