Montana women host No. 46 Sacramento State

The University of Montana women??s tennis team (4-8, 1-0 BSC) continues its 2006 dual match schedule this Saturday with a 7 p.m. (MST) contest against Big Sky foe Sacramento State (9-5, 4-0 BSC). The Griz-Hornet match is scheduled to be played indoors at the Missoula Athletic Club.
Scouting the opponent:
The Hornets have won seven of their last nine matches entering Saturday??s contest with UM. The Griz and the Hornets each played UC Irvine this spring. UM lost 6-1 to the Anteaters while Sac State rolled to a 4-2 win. The Hornets are led by Margarita Karnaukhova, the nation??s 72nd-ranked singles player who boasts a 7-4 mark at the top of the lineup. Karnaukhova and teammate Anastassia Lyssenko (7-4) make up the 56th-ranked doubles duo in the country.
Quoting head coach Jen Anderson:
??Our girls are really excited to play Sacramento State. Our win over Montana State has really pumped them up for the conference schedule this year. We know that the Hornets are tough, but they??ll be coming off a road match at MSU earlier that day and we??re looking to take advantage of that. After a long week in California, the team is ready to get back to Missoula and try to stay undefeated at home.??
Last time out:
The Grizzlies took on a demanding mid-spring schedule which saw them play five matches in seven days. After opening the trip with a win in its conference opener, UM lost four consecutive matches in a road trip through California.
Montana defeated rival Montana State 4-3 outdoors at the Lindsay Tennis Center in Missoula to begin the trip. UM improved to 1-0 in Big Sky play with the win.
At the UC Irvine Invitational March 26-28, the Grizzlies lost 6-1 to San Francisco, 7-0 to host team UC Irvine and 4-3 versus San Jose State. UM closed the four-match road trip with a 6-1 loss at CS Northridge.
Next up for UM:
Montana faces three matches in two days in its road trip through Arizona scheduled for April 7-8. The Griz open the trip Friday with a 2 p.m. (MTN) match against league opponent Northern Arizona. UM faces a double-header Saturday, a 9 a.m. contest at Grand Canyon University and a 1:30 p.m. match against Scottsdale Community College.
