Women's tennis finishes out 1-2 in Portland

The University of Montana women???s tennis team dropped its final match of the weekend to Santa Clara Sunday afternoon in a 0-7 loss at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center in Portland. The Grizzlies drop to 2-5 in spring duals while the Broncos climb to 5-1.
Though still in the red for its win/loss ratio, the Montana squad, who went 8-13 in 2009 under first-year coach Steve Ascher, has proven tough against strong Division I opponents like the Broncos. Sunday was no exception as the Grizzly doubles team of Heather Davidson and Cara Lehman defeated Bronco star Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge 8-7 (4) at No. 3.
In a hard fought match at No. 2 singles, Grizzly freshman Constance Alexander pushed Alex Zaniewski to a first-set tiebreaker before dropping the second 3-6. ????
After Sunday???s match, Ascher said, ???Today we just met a better team. Our girls played well throughout the weekend, but Santa Clara brought a stronger game today.???
The Grizzlies will play again February 27 as they head to Utah to take on Big Sky opponents Weber State, and Idaho State as well as the non-conference Utah State team. ??
