Hornets serve up hard times in Sacramento

The University of Montana women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss Saturday to Big Sky favorite No. 46 Sacramento State. Montana dropped to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in Big Sky play while the Hornets moved to 10-7 and 3-0 in league play.
Following the match, UM coach Steve Ascher said, "The team had a good showing in doubles, and played very well as a whole. Sacramento was just too strong."
The Grizzlies had banked upon a tired group of Hornets following the host's morning challenge by No. 60 Davis. In that event, the Hornets and Aggies did not contend doubles matches, and the home team dispatched with its southern neighbor 6-0.
Ascher said, "We were hoping that the morning match would be more of a grinder. As it turns out, we could be looking at a closer match with Davis tomorrow, even though they are also a ranked team."
In Saturday's matches, UM seniors Rebecca Bran and Whitney Paluch provided the most serious challenge to their Sac opponents, playing to an 8-5 result behind Tatsiana Kapshai and Rebecca Delgado.
In singles play, UM junior Lauren Gibson supplied the most resistance for her hornet opponent at No. 6, going 6-4, 6-4 in her two set loss to Milica Zivanovic.
