The Montana Grizzly women's tennis team is picked to finish second in the Big Sky Conference for the 2013-14 season. The league released its preseason poll recently and Montana received 91 points, slightly behind powerhouse Sacramento State and its 100 points.
The Grizzlies fell to the Hornets 4-1 in the Big Sky Conference championship match last season. Sacramento State has claimed 12 consecutive Big Sky titles, while Montana is aiming for its first league championship.
Northern Arizona was selected third with 79 points, followed by Northern Colorado's 68 points. Southern Utah was chosen fifth with 66 points, followed by Montana State with 61 points.
Montana posted a 9-1 conference record last season, including a 4-0 mark at home. Sacramento State handed the Grizzlies their sole regular-season league loss in March.
The women's tennis team lost Heather Davidson to graduation, but it returns the rest of its 2012-13 squad. Ashley Mackey and Maddy Murray are the 2013-14 team's lone seniors.
The Grizzlies will open their spring season on Friday, Jan. 31, against Washington State, with their first conference match on Saturday, Feb. 15, against rival Montana State.
