Box Score
Mario Dunn led Montana out of the gates with a bang, scoring eight of the teams first 15 points. A 14-0 run gave the Grizzlies a 20-7 lead with 9:32 remaining in the first half. From there, the Grizzly offense slowed as they scored just 10 points for the remainder of the half.
The Griz defense, however, appeared much improved compared to last week's 83-66 loss to Colorado State. The Griz were able to rotate well and force the Broncos into taking difficult shots.
They did this without starting post Martin Breunig for a majority of the first half. Breunig picked up his second foul with 17:02 remaining, and sat on the bench for the rest of the half.
The second half mirrored the first almost exactly, with the teams switching roles. The Broncos jumped quick, cutting a 10-point halftime lead to just three points within four minutes.
A pair of Igor Hadziomerovic free throws with 13:38 remaining tied the game at 36's. A 10-2 run capped off by a Michael Weisner three-pointer extended the Grizzly lead back to eight with 9:06 remaining.
The Broncos charged back to tie the game up at 51-51. With the game-clock ticking toward zero, Boise State's Derrick Marks had the ball in his hand with a chance to win the game. His jumper at the buzzer hit the back-iron and the game headed into overtime.
Less than a minute into overtime, Dunn, the Grizzlies' starting point guard, fouled out. The two teams battled back and forth, with neither side gaining more than a three point lead.
Anthony Drmic hit a big three-pointer with 22 seconds left to tie the game at 59. Montana had a chance to win it, but a turnover on the perimeter sent the game to a second overtime.
An acrobatic finish plus the foul by Drmic gave Boise State a three point lead to start the second overtime period. Jordan Gregory answered with a trey of his own. The teams then traded three-pointers again before a Drmic lay-up with 1:56 remaining gave Boise State the lead for good.
Gregory had a chance to tie it up late, but his made three-point basket came after the shot clock had expired, giving the Broncos a three point lead with just five seconds on the clock.
Breunig, despite playing limited minutes, nearly reached a double-double, leading the Griz with 16 points and nine rebounds. Gregory added 15 points, but shot just 20 percent from the field. Dunn had 12 points, three assists and three steals before fouling out.
The Grizzlies also saw good offensive contributions from Jermaine Edmonds Jr. and Weisner, who both finished with eight points. Edmonds also finished with seven rebounds.
Drmic led the way for the Broncos with 29 points, including 12 in the two overtime periods. Nick Duncan added 15 points and six rebounds.
This was head coach Travis DeCuire's second career game at the helm for Montana.
The Grizzlies will be in action again on Nov. 23 when they take on Seattle University in the Marv Harshman Classic, a tournament hosted by the University of Washington.
