Griz sophomore Barbora Bakova won her first collegiate golf tournament Tuesday when her final-round 73 at the Sacramento State Invitational gave her a two-stroke victory at the Sierra View Country Club at Roseville, Calif. Montana shot a 309 Tuesday and finished third in the five-team field.
Tied for second with Sacramento State's Sagee Palavivatana entering the tournament's final round, Bakova (75-74-73--222) got her day off to a good start with an eagle on the third hole to go 2-under.
She gave both strokes back with bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5 and went 2-over with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 13 and 14. She birdied No. 16 to get back to 1-over and closed her round with consecutive pars.
It was good enough for a two-stroke victory over Palavivatana (70-79-75--224), who shot a 3-over 75 in the final round.
The tournament's leader after Monday's two rounds, Sac State's Lexie Hall (75-70-85--230), dropped into a tie for seventh in the final standings after shooting an 85 Tuesday. Her round included three double bogeys and a quadruple-bogey 8 on the par-4 15th.
Sophomore Alexa Schendelman (76-75-77--228) tied for fourth, and junior Hayley Bingham (79-76-78--233), who was competing as an individual, tied for 10th.
Among Montana's other scoring players, senior Tara Green (79-83-76-238) shook off a rough opening day and closed with a 76 to finish 18th. Junior Phoebe Tan (80-77-83--240) tied for 22nd, sophomore Amanda Kahn (80-77-86--243) finished 24th.
Freshman Hailey Hoagland (83-79-77--239), also competing as an individual, tied for 19th.
Montana (310-303-309--922) began the day in second, one stroke up on Cal State Northridge, but the Matadors (297-317-306--920) took second by two strokes with a 306 Tuesday.
Sacramento State (299-300-302--901) ran away with the tournament, winning by 19 strokes.
