Grizzlies glad to be back home

It has been more than a month since the Montana women's tennis team (3-11, 2-2 BSC) has played at home defending their Peak fortress. Having competed in a difficult series of matches across the nation, the Grizzlies are ready to compete against conference rivals.
Â
Montana will play three consecutive days of matches against Idaho, Sacramento State and Northern Colorado, starting on Friday. All three matches will be played at the Peak Racquet Club starting at 9 a.m.
Â
Coach Steve Ascher believes the team has benefited from the month of playing strong programs.
Â
"It was a great learning experience, and we enjoyed the East Coast," Ascher said. "We are excited to be back in our home environment."
Â
Ascher believes his team can make some noise heading into the final weeks of conference play.
Â
"I am excited to see how each of the players takes the experiences over the last few weeks and applies the lessons to the final matches of the season."
Â
Idaho and Sacramento State are currently second and third in the conference standings and in contention to win the conference title that Northern Arizona is currently in position to take.
Â
Northern Colorado is 10th in the standings, with plenty of time left in the season for the Bears to wreak havoc in the conference standings with potential upsets against schools still in contention. Don't expect any matches to be taken lightly at the Peak over the next three days by any of the teams.
Â
Montana is currently seventh in the Big Sky standings. If the Grizzlies are able to defeat their three opponents this weekend, they would be 5-2 in conference play with four matches remaining, with the possibility of ending the season 9-2 in league before the Big Sky tournament begins in Gold River, Calif.
