Pridgett repeats as Big Sky Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah – For the second consecutive week, Montana's Sayeed Pridgett has been named the Big Sky Conference Ready Nutrition Player of the Week. Last week, the junior was an obvious pick; this week, he was a no-brainer.
The league office could have saved money on shipping and presented Pridgett his award on Thursday, when he was in town and scored 29 points and collected 16 rebounds in a road win over Weber State. The numbers were both career highs, but he wasn't done.
Pridgett followed that performance up with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting, in addition to seven rebounds and a career-high-tying five assists – all figures that led the Griz – in their 80-68 win over Idaho State.
For the week, Pridgett averaged 25.5 points on .667 shooting, also pulling down 11.5 rebounds per game and dishing out 3.5 assists.
Pridgett is the first Griz player to win three player-of-the-week awards in a single season since Kareem Jamar in 2013-14. He is the first Griz to win the award in back-to-back weeks since Brian Qvale in January 2011.
Against the Wildcats, Pridgett scored nine of Montana's first 11 points as Montana jumped out to an early lead. The Griz would need all of them, as Weber State came storming back to get within a single point. Leading by one, 79-78, with 36 seconds to play, Montana turned to the Oakland native once again, and he delivered, spinning around his defender for what ended up being the game-winning shot. Pridgett made seven of his first nine shots and was a perfect 3-for-3 from deep in the game.
Against the Bengals, Pridgett had a game-high 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting, leading Montana for scoring, rebounding and assists. During an 18-3 run to close the half and erase a nine-point deficit, Pridgett had six points, three rebounds and two assists.
Pridgett is having a breakout junior season. After averaging 8.4 points a year ago as the team's sixth man, he is now one of the league's top players, ranking in the top 15 of the Big Sky for scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage, assists and steals (he's the only player to do so).
Over his past four games, Pridgett has led Montana in scoring all four times, averaging 22.8 points per game on .731 shooting, in addition to 9.0 rebounds. He is one of three players to be named Big Sky Player of the Week three times this season. Overall, Montana has won four of the past six weekly awards.
The Grizzlies are on a nine-game winning streak and own a two-game lead in the conference standings. They have a big week up ahead, hosting rival Montana State on Saturday (Maroon Out) before turning around to host second-place Northern Colorado on Monday. Should the Grizzlies win both games, they would have at least a three-game lead in the standings with four games to play. Tickets are going fast and can be purchased online.
