Montana begins Championship prep in Bozeman
2/7/2019 5:42:00 PM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
MISSOULA, Mont. – The Montana track & field team has reached the final stages of the 2019 indoor season. The team will make its first of three consecutive trips to Bozeman on Friday for the MSU Dual Meet Invitational. The meet will feature athletes from Big Sky schools Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Weber State and host Montana State.
Montana is coming off of its best overall meet of the season, with the women winning the D1 Invitational Team Meet in Moscow, and the men placing second. Montana, particularly the women, are in position to do big things again this Friday, with eight female athletes seeded first or second in their respective events.
Jane Booth (high jump), Hana Feilzer (weight throw), Erika McLeod (200 meters) and Carly Smiedala (800 meters) have the best marks among competitors. Olivia Ellis (400 meters), Madeline Hamilton (800 meters), Carla Nicosia (triple jump) and Jansen Ziola (60-meter hurdles) are second.
On the men's side, Matt Quist (high jump) and Paul Johnstone (400 meters) are seeded highly.
Again, though, the focus will be less on the final results and more on taking advantage of each opportunity to get better. After all, the 2019 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships are right around the corner, beginning Feb. 20.
Action on Friday begins at 2:30 p.m. with the throwing events. Track events begin at 4 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles. Fans can watch the meet for free on Pluto TV (channel 238) and www.WatchBigSky.com, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Live results can be found online.
