Griz to cap fall tourney season at Gonzaga

The Montana women's tennis team caps its fall tournament season this weekend in Spokane at the Gonzaga Invitational, a three-day tourney that will pit the Griz against some of the top teams in the Pacific Northwest.

After making a run to the doubles quarterfinal of the ITA Mountain Regional in mid-October, the Griz return to action at the Stevens Tennis Center in Spokane, with nine regional teams set to compete, highlighted by No. 43-ranked Washington and No. 46 Oregon.

Also competing at Gonzaga this weekend are Montana State, Idaho, Eastern Washington, Portland, Idaho, Idaho State, and the host Zags.
"We're excited to be getting some great competiton this week," said head coach Steve Ascher. 'Having some of the best teams in the Northwest there will be really helpful for us this spring."

Gonzaga will provide a live stream and live scoring of all matches at the Stevens Tennis Center for fans to follow along on. Live updates can also be found on Twitter @ZagsInvite.

The tournament will feature four singles draws (Blue, Purple, Red, and Green) with 16 players each. Doubles will feature two draws, a red and blue. Singles will be two out of three no-ad tiebreak sets with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of the third set. Doubles will be best of one no-ad tiebreak set with a seven-point tiebreaker played at 6-6.

On Friday, the tournament starts with two rounds of doubles and one singles round, followed by two singles rounds on Saturday and two doubles rounds with a championship singles round on Sunday.

Montana will turn its attention to the spring duals season following the tournament, with players reporting to campus in early January. The complete spring schedule is expected in the coming weeks.
